General Information

Scope

There is an increasing number of research initiatives that utilize modern technology in order to support patients in maintaining or regaining a healthy mental state.

Advanced technological solutions have been exploited for treating depression, anxiety disorders, and for coping with stress.
This is of utmost importance to provide people with higher quality of life and also to shift a part of monitoring tasks from therapists and caregivers to unobtrusive technological systems.

Effort have started with Internet-based self-help therapies, but since recently systems make increasingly use of ambient intelligence, pervasive computing, smart phones and sensor systems.
Their shared goal is to provide effective solutions for improving mental health.

This workshop aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from both psychological and technological fields (such as computer science, artificial intelligence, information systems) that share the same interest of strengthening or maintaining mental health.
The goal of MindCare workshop is to exchange ideas aiming to support synergy of the two domains for further progress in this field.

Topics of Interest

The focus of the workshop is placed on the exploitation of technology in favor of cognitive and emotional well-being. We are looking for the research contributions on topics including but not limited to:

- IT Systems for Mental Health
- Architectures for Mental Support Systems
- Evaluation of IT systems for Mental Health
- Ambient Intelligence in Mental Health
- Artificial Intelligence Techniques in Mental Health
- Pervasive Computing in Mental Health
- Utilization of Physiological Measurements in Mental Health
- Relation between Physiological Measurements and Mental states

Villamoura

Vilamoura is the name given to an area rather than to any actual town. It is outstanding in that it is one of the largest single tourist complex in Europe and covers some 2.000 hectares of land. The land is variable in its vegetation, some parts covered in pine forests whilst others open recovered marshland. Vilamoura is a special place, a unique leisure and recreation resort community where the pace of life is so easy it feels like summer all year round. Located in the middle of the Algarve coast, within 15Km of the main airport at Faro, Vilamoura's accessibility has helped it become one of Europe's largest beach resorts. Vilamoura is ideally located and features a wide choice of prime accommodation, offers a commercial structure for day-to-day needs and is bursting with sporting and leisure facilities for the whole family. It is a place for rest and business but also for pursuing active pastimes and sports; a friendly and safe residential haven, but also a vibrant and exciting night-life centre. Vilamoura's Marina is one of the main centres of attraction in the Algarve, offering a wide range of tourist and leisure activities.

With about 1,000 berths, this is the largest and most important marina in Portugal and it is an important landmark on the national and international recreational boating scene. The marina is surrounded by large hotels and luxury holiday homes as well as a large casino and numerous restaurants and vibrant bars. At the far corner of the marina it is possible to charter boats for big game fishing and for jet skiing. For a rather small region, less than 200 kilometers in length & 50 kilometers wide, the Algarve has a truly fascinating historic tale to tell. Every place in the Algarve has its own unique character, offering totally different sceneries, experiences, activities and gastronomic delights. The heritage of Algarve is easy to see as you travel around the region: the decorative glazed tiles (azulejos) on the buildings and the flat roofed, small windowed buildings, which are signs of the Moorish influence of the past. Algarve chimneys are often quite intricate latticework designs which have historically been used as a symbol of wealth: the larger and more intricate the design, the higher the position in society.
